Do you feel out of control?
You may feel like your choices aren’t your own. Your life is being driven by another’s hand. It doesn’t feel good, especially because you’re unsure if you really want any or some of these choices or entities. You feel your real goals have been put on the backburner.
Today, it’s time to take back control. Your hands are on the wheel. And you’re driving this life.
So, hit the gas pedal. We’ve got 7 tips for taking back control of your life.
Tip #1: Say “I Can,” Over “I Can’t.”
You are your best friend, but also your own worst enemy. What gets in the way of most people’s goals? Themselves. Your inner critic and negative self-talk cast a shadow over what you think you’re capable of. But what if you switched that dialogue? When you find yourself saying, ‘I can’t,’ recognize it and catch yourself. Change it to, ‘I can.’ Then, see what happens!
Tip #2: Do Something Out of Your Comfort Zone.
Maybe you’re just stuck in the mundane. You’ve stopped trying new things or pushing your boundaries. Your brain needs this stimulation, especially if you want to continue to grow and improve. So, here’s a bit of advice: Try something new! Put yourself out there. It’s going to be scary. It’s going to be nerve-racking. But it’s going to be worth it. And it doesn’t have to be huge. You could simply try a new hobby or sign up for a new painting class - whatever works! Just start gradually pushing your limits. Who knows what you’re capable of?
Tip #3: Learn to Say “No.”
Saying yes to something closes the door to something else. And you can’t do it all anyway - at least not well. If you’re stretching yourself too thin across other people’s needs or wants, it’s no wonder you’re feeling a tad out of control. Start saying ‘no’ when you need to - even if that means you just need a little me-time or a night to relax.
Tip #4: Treat Yourself How You Would Treat Others.
This comes back to that nagging and negative voice in the back of your mind. Are you treating yourself right? Are you telling yourself you deserve it? You should be! Treat yourself like you would a best friend. Cheer yourself on. Give yourself pep talks. Be kind to yourself!
Tip #5: Take Failure as a Learning Experience.
This is one of the best things you can do. Failure is part of life. It happens to everyone. But you can either let it beat you down. Or you can take it and learn from it, applying it to your present and future decisions. Don’t let failure take the wheel out of your grasp. Instead, let it guide you toward where you need to be. Let it teach you a lesson.
Tip #6: Write Down Your Goals.
You might have goals. But have you written them down somewhere? If you haven’t and haven’t started taking action toward those goals, you’re unfortunately settling into the “all-talk-no-action” situation. Write down your goals. Make them S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-oriented) goals. And take one small step toward them. Your goal may be big and far off in the future, so for now, just focus on what you can do today. What you do every single day will get you eventually to where you want to be.
Tip #7: Start Cleaning and Organizing
This goes hand-in-hand with writing down your goals. Organize the space around you. A clean and organized environment translate over into a clear and organized mind. Get rid of clutter and clean house! It might bring clarity to your life that you desperately need.
You Are in Control of You.
Remember this. It’s no one else’s fault. You run your life. So, start acting like it. Use the above tips to finally get to where you want to be. And to get there, you have to do the work. But it’s entirely possible.
It further plays into your overall health and the healthy or non-healthy choices you make. Stay positive! And start taking back control of your life today. No more excuses!
