Losing weight might seem the end-all, be-all to all your problems. And undeniably, it will vastly improve your health. Maintaining a healthy weight decreases your risk of various life-threatening diseases. It’s a good goal to have.
However, what not-so-popular things should you be aware of when losing weight? We often hear all about the upside, but little about the downside. So, let’s take a look!
1. “EVERYTHING will be better when I lose weight.”
Your problems still remain problems - even when you’ve lost the weight you set out to lose. While you’re working on your physical self, don’t forget about your mental self as well. Take care of you! Improve yourself internally and that’ll shine through. It’s a balancing act, but an important one to remember. Yes, you’ll feel better when you lose weight. But no, your personal problems won’t just disappear. Work on constant self-improvement and personal growth and you’ll get to where you want to be!
2. It might take awhile for you to adjust…
You might still feel overweight. Many individuals who have lost weight take some time to adjust. They also may notice their confidence takes time to come with it. But the good news is that you will get used to it. On the other side is a new and confident you!
3. You’ll have more energy!
Carrying around extra weight takes energy. Without it, you’ll feel more energetic, less fatigued, and you’ll even sleep better. That way, you can pour your energy into the things you really want out of life, whether that be in your personal relationships or career.
4. You may have excess skin (but this depends).
When a person goes through drastic weight loss, there’s one major physical change that isn’t accounted for: excess skin. Your skin takes a while to go back to normal. And because there was more tissue underneath, you may have excess of it. For some, it never goes back for normal. For others, it takes time. In more severe cases, some individuals opt for surgery. Do what’s best for you and your life if you face this obstacle. Remember, battle scars aren’t shameful. Be proud.
5. Some people will be negative… ignore them.
Often, we hang around individuals with the same habits. And thus, you may have friends or family that are also overweight. They might try to make you feel bad about it. Know that this is normal and has nothing to do with you. It’s about their own internal struggle. The best you can do is ignore it. If it gets bad, drop those friends. They aren’t real friends if they can’t support you and your health journey.
Be Realistic with Your Weight Loss
Your body might not look entirely how you want it to look. You might not feel entirely how you want to feel. Others might judge. But should that stop you? Absolutely not! Remind yourself of your why - that you’re doing this for yourself and your health, no one else. And stick with that and run with it. You deserve a full, happy, and healthy life. Don’t think any differently!
