But how can you become more positive?

It’s easier said than done. Yet, there are various strategies you can use to amp up the positivity in your life. Here are our top 5 strategies you can start using today:

1. Try Daily Affirmations

Trying to be positive is hard - especially when you’re stuck in a negative mindset. You may tell yourself you’re undeserving. Or you may convince yourself that you’re not good enough.

We are our worst critics. And research shows this. On average, 80% of a person’s thoughts are negative.

However, daily affirmations can help you boost positive self-talk and downplay negative self-talk. Affirmations are short messages. They may not seem like they are doing a lot. But by repeating them daily, you can slowly begin to change your thought processes and mental state.

Start with these:

“I am deserving.”

“I’m becoming stronger every day.”

“No one can make me feel inferior.”

“I have the power and control to change my story and my life.”

“I am confident, and I am happy.”

Repeat each affirmation 5-10 times every morning. Watch as your outlook changes!

2. Practice Gratefulness

This is another regular practice you should start doing every day. Take a set amount of time to list the things that you are grateful for in your life.

Sometimes, when you’re stuck in the negative, it’s tough to recognize the things you do have. You begin to take these things for granted. By reminding yourself daily of the great things you have in your life, you create a more positive outlook. It reminds you that things are never as bad as they seem.

Set aside 10-15 minutes. Grab and pen and paper. Make that list!

  • Set a timer for 5 minutes.

  • Close your eyes.

  • Bring your attention to your breath.

  • Take a slow and deliberate inhale.

  • As you slowly exhale, count ‘1.’

  • At each exhale, continue to count up to 10, then count back down to 1 - and so on, until your time is up.

If you find your thoughts straying from your count and your breath, don’t beat yourself up about it. Simply bring your thoughts back to your meditation practice. Remember, it takes practice!

4. Move More!

The benefits of exercise are everywhere. It protects you from a variety of diseases and improves your longevity and quality of life.

If you’re new to exercise, start slow. Overdoing it may lead to discouragement. Begin with something easy and something that you enjoy. There’s a lot of options out there! You just need to find an activity that works for you and your life.

5. Check Your Diet

If you’re putting unhealthy and low nutrient-dense foods in your body, chances are you aren’t going to feel all that great. And if you aren’t getting the proper nutrients, your body is likely experiencing various imbalances. It makes life that much harder. And it absolutely impacts your mindset.

Check your diet and be honest with yourself. What are you eating? If it’s mostly processed and pre-packaged foods, consider re-assessing your grocery lists. Even a small tweak might make a huge difference. Go for a diet consisting of more natural sources of food, such as veggies and fruits. Make that change!
